Kendal's castles!

It may come as a surprise to some, that Kendal has two fine castles in its possession. The first, Castle Howe, is a typical Norman Motte and Bailey castle, dating from somewhere between 1080 and 1092. The second, is Kendal Castle, probably the more recognisable of the two, dating from after 1092, and altered and rebuilt right through to the 15th century. Both are open for the public to explore, and both hint at the history that lies behind Kendal. This addition to the Castles Blog, will be dedicated to the two castles, and their changing faces through the seasons.
